Governor John Bel Edwards of Louisiana signed into law a bill allowing hunters the option of wearing blaze pink on Friday, May 6th . The new law follows Wisconsin’s lead in permitting blaze pink. Louisiana hunters may now wear blaze pink as well as hunter orange during open gun hunting season. Previously, Louisiana hunters had to wear “400 square inches of fluorescent orange on their head, back, and chest while hunting certain game with a gun on public land.”
Wisconsin approved blaze pink in addition to traditional hunter orange in February of this year. The Wisconsin’s Sportsmen’s Caucus – a bipartisan group of lawmakers – proposed the bill hoping it will further encourage more women to consider hunting. Females make up less than 10% of the deer hunters but represent the fastest growing segment of hunters.
