Hunting Season & Fire Prevention

EQUIPMENT SAFETY

* If towing a trailer, secure safety chains and ensure they will not come incontact with the road. Dragging chains may create sparks causing awildfire.

* Underinflated tires and/or tire failure pose a wildfire hazard. Wheel rimsmay produce sparks if contact is made with the pavement. This isespecially common on trailers.

* Maintain trailer brakes and wheel bearings. This helps to avoid catastrophicfailures resulting in brake fires and/or the emission of sparks and hot metalfragments that may cause wildfire ignitions along roadways.

* When mowing or shredding, scout the area for rocks and metal that couldmake contact with the blades and create sparks

PARKING IN DRY GRASS

*Maintain off-road vehicles and avoid parking or idling over dry vegetation.Park in designated areas with gravel, soil, or pavement.

* Keep vehicles well maintained, including the vehicle’s exhaust systemwhere failing catalytic converters may emit extremely hot metal fragmentsand ignite a roadside wildfire.

CAMPFIRE & DEBRIS BURNING SAFETY

* Learn before you burn. Contact local officials to determine if a Burn Ban isin place in your area or if there are any type of restrictions on outdoorburning.

* Always obey local burn bans and outdoor burning restrictions. Wait toconduct any outdoor burning or light campfires until the burn ban has beenlifted and weather conditions are not extremely hot, dry, or windy.

* Make a small fire in a safe and clear area.

* Never leave your fire unattended.

* When preparing to leave, soak the fire with water, stir the coals, check forheat. Repeat until out cold!
